Enric Fernández

Head of Strategic Planning and Research

Head of Strategic Planning and Research and Chief Economist at CaixaBank. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Economic and Business Sciences from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (1995), a Master's Degree (1997) and a PhD (2000) in Economics from the University of Chicago, and is a graduate from the Executive Development Program (PDD) at IESE Business School (2010). While studying in Chicago, he was research assistant at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, teaching assistant in various graduate courses at the University of Chicago and lecturer of macroeconomics at the College of the same university. After his PhD, he joined the International Monetary Fund as an economist, where he focused on monitoring emerging economies of Latin America, Eastern Europe and Asia and participated in the design and negotiation of various financial assistance programs. In September 2006 he joined the Research and Economic Analysis Division of "la Caixa", where he was director of International Economics until 2012. Subsequently, until June 2016, he was director of Banking Strategy in the Strategic Planning and Research Department of CaixaBank, where the design and monitoring of CaixaBank's strategic plan is coordinated. He has been the recipient of the "la Caixa" scholarship (1995) to carry out doctorate studies in the United States and the Henry Morgenthau Dissertation Fellowship (1999), awarded by the Department of Economics at the University of Chicago.
