Equities rallied on both sides of the Atlantic on Monday, as investors looked ahead to earnings releases from major technology companies and Spanish banks later this week. Oil prices remained broadly stable, while Dutch TTF natural gas gained 3% to 96.7 €/MWh, reaching its highest level since the outbreak of the conflict in the Middle East.
European peripheral sovereign yields declined, led by France, where the 10-year OAT yield fell 12b.p. after Moody's maintained the country's A3 credit rating on Friday. German bund yields moved higher, while U.S. Treasury yields were little changed.
The dollar appreciated against its major peers, with the Brazilian real emerging as the main underperformer following the presidential election results in Brazil, which delivered a victory for Lula da Silva. Market attention now turns to this week’s monetary policy meetings at the Fed, the ECB and the BoJ.
