Investors ended the week in a mixed mood. Volatility jumped and stock markets declined across many advanced economies. In contrast, EM equities posted moderate gains.

  • Investors ended the week in a mixed mood. Volatility jumped and stock markets declined across many advanced economies. In contrast, EM equities posted moderate gains.
  • In fixed-income markets, long-term sovereign yields rose across the U.S. and Europe as the BLS released data showing solid growth in U.S. producer prices in August (+0.7% mom and +8.3% yoy). Euro area peripheral spreads held steady and the euro fluctuated around $1.18.
  • In commodity markets, Brent oil prices rose towards $73 amid signs of supply tightness in the U.S. as a result of Hurricane Ida.
  • This week the focus will be on the release of U.S. August consumer inflation data (Tuesday) as well as on final estimates for August CPI figures in several euro area countries.
